About

Moditha Ranatunga

Moditha is a talented cricketer that comes from a lineage of highly talented cricketers. He is the son of former Sri Lankan international cricketer, Sanjeeva Ranatunga, and the nephew of Dammika Ranatunga, Nishantha Ranatunga, both of whom represented Sri Lanka on the international stage, but most famously he is the nephew of the 1996 World Cup winning captain and Sri Lankan legend, Arjuna Ranatunga.

Moditha has big boots to fill given his family's cricketing achievements but this shows that he has the skill to achieve the same heights as his father and uncles.

Moditha is a confident and skilful batsman that isn't afraid of taking bowlers on to ensure that they don't settle into a rhythm. He is equipped with the necessary skills which enable him to face any type of bowling and to keep the scoreboard ticking. With the ball in hand, he offers up a useful option with his off spinners.

He made his First Class debut for Burgher Recreational club in 2022 where he immediately impressed, scoring 52, showing his talent and potential with glimpses of brilliance that he has inherited from his family members. Whilst still in the infancy stage of his professional career, Moditha has shown he has what it takes to compete at the highest level and will no doubt grow into an even more talented cricketer.

Moditha signed for Norley Hall CC ahead of the 2024 UK season. During his time at the club, he exceeded expectation by putting out a number of match winning performances to help the club finish the season in the top 4. He was the club's leading run scorer with 728 runs with an average of 33.09 which included two centuries and four half-centuries.

Seeking a return to the UK in 2025, Moditha is eager to showcase his talent once again. He would make for a great signing for any club looking for a talented and reliable run scorer to help bolster the batting lineup whilst doubling up as a handy bowling option.
