About

Oliver Dabinett-Jays

Ollie is an extremely talented, young cricketer with heaps of potential. He is a confident and skilful top order batsman and despite not getting many bowling opportunities he still shows a lot of promise with his leggies which was evident during his 2022/23 season in Australia.

Growing up, Ollie was involved in both the Sussex and Hampshire pathway system but unfortunately was unable to secure a county contract as he got older. In the past year and a half, he has decided to make a concerted effort to pursue a career in county cricket by dedicating a lot of time, effort, and hard work into his fitness and skill development which has shown by his performances on the field in the UK and Australia.

Ollie travelled to Perth, Australia, during the 2022/23 season where he joined Western Australian Premier League club Claremont Nedlands CC. He started out in the 2nd Grade but after putting up some good scores including a score of 160, he got his shot in the 1st Grade where he remained for the majority of the season. During his time in Australia he worked with a number highly qualified and experienced batting coaches which helped take his batting to a new level and was fortunate enough to be involved in a club that conducted high performance training sessions. All of which helped improve his game, especially his batting. While at Claremont Nedlands CC, he was given more bowling opportunities which is where his leg spin potential shone through. He finished his maiden season in Australia with a 518 runs with an average of 30.47 and 22 wickets with an average of 18.86. Exceptional stats for a 20 year old in his first season abroad playing Premier League 1st and 2nd Grade cricket. On his return from Australia, he was awarded a trial at Northamptonshire CCC. He currently plays for Chichester Priory Park CC where he is currently the leading run scorer for the 1st XI.

Ollie returned to Claremont-Nedlands CC for the 2023/24 season. He is currently having a fantastic season, putting up consistent top scores and has become a key member of the 1st Grade's bowling attack. Since being back in Australia Ollie has played alongside and against a number of notable professional cricketers, namely James Bracey, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Da'Arcy Short, George Bartlett, Tim David, and Rob Yates just to name a few, the list goes on. After having a net with James Bracey, he spoke very highly of Ollie's batting and bowling ability with one of the coaches. Fantastic praise from someone like James Bracey.

Ollie has his eyes set on a professional cricketing career and will be pushing to receive his first county contract next season. He is clearly a talented cricketer with a lot more to show and has the determination, drive, and discipline that could one day see him representing a county cricket club. If that were to happen he would no doubt be able to develop his skills further given his passion and drive to be the best he can be and thus see him become a highly sought after First Class all-rounder.
