Derbyshire based club, Chesterfield CC, opt for young, up and coming Sri Lankan all-rounder, Kemira Wijenayake, ahead of their 2024 campaign as they strive for promotion.
Kemira is a talented, up and coming all-rounder. He displays a lot of potential to one day become a top all-rounder in Sri Lankan domestic cricket. Typically positioned at the top of the order, he possesses a mature batting style that balances defense and attack. He shows aptitude for batting cautiously during challenging situations while also having the capability to take the attack to the bowlers when needed. Although his bowling opportunities have been limited, he is making strides towards being a permanent bowling option as he has shown that he has the ability to bowl at the top level.
Kemira began his professional career with Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club and has since remained a frequent member of the team as the selectors clearly see potential in him owing to his reliability as a top-order batsman and as a suitable bowling option.
As Kemira embarks on his maiden season in the UK, he is excited to showcase his talent and put out top performances with both bat and ball to help Chesterfield CC secure a top two finish of the Derbyshire County Cricket League and earn them promotion into the premier league.
